Is there no way out of the mind?

Sylvia Plath

Hi! I’m Halley

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist, as well as the proud owner of Nagy Counseling LLC. As a clinician, it is my intention to create an environment where you feel safe, seen, and heard. I will listen. I will provide compassion. Most importantly, I will attempt to understand something about you, just as I hope you will give yourself permission to understand something about yourself.

In therapy, I often ask questions and make observations that invite insight, as well as help you make connections between the family system and who you are as an individual. I also attempt to remain neutral, but I may laugh with you in session, I’ll watch the tik tok you resonated with it, I’d love to see photos of your pets, and you’re welcome to tell me how your horoscope or recent tarot reading aligns with your current problem.

Therapy is messy. Therapy is not linear. Therapy is a process. I’d be honored to be a part of yours.

My Approach

I work from a Family Systems approach, meaning it is my intention to look beyond the symptoms being presented to identify the root of the problem and to make space for you as a whole person, not just a diagnosis or a label. This often looks like exploring our most intimate relationships, the family system, and what connections or patterns exist between the two. This tends to be long-term work, as this therapy offers more insight and curiosity than coping skills and short-term solutions.

Therapy Logistics

While I have previously offered couples and family therapy, I primarily work with individuals 18 and older. These sessions are often covered by insurance. Out-of-pocket options are available for those without insurance. Please call the number on the back of your insurance card to best understand what is covered and what your copay might be. I am in-network with the following:

  • UPMC

  • Highmark

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Aetna

  • Optum (UHC/UMR)

  • Cigna

Therapeutic Focus

I value all people and I hope to create a therapeutic environment that reflects my beliefs. I am an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and I work to be culturally competent. While I “specialize” in family systems, I work with a range of clients presenting with concerns around (but not limited to):

  • anxiety

  • codependency

  • relationships

  • family conflict

  • parenting

  • negative self-image

  • depression

  • gender identity

  • sexual orientation

  • open relationships/non-monogamy

  • racial identity

We might be a good fit if:

  • You’re wanting to explore your family system, better understand yourself, and how those two things connect

  • You find yourself wanting to go deeper and get to the root of the problem

  • You describe yourself as a logical thinker or an over-analyzer

  • You ask yourself “Why am I like this?” or “Why does this keep happening?”

  • You feel like you already have all of the coping skills, but keep running into the same problems

  • You are interested in long-term therapy, awareness, and healing

We might not be a good fit if:

  • You are looking for short-term therapy, solution-focused therapy, or a “quick fix”

  • You are unable to meet weekly or biweekly for sessions

  • You are looking to focus on learning coping skills

  • You are looking for a therapist to direct/guide sessions or have an agenda

  • You want to have homework assignments or something “to do”

  • You are looking for a diagnosis or an assessment
